The State government plans to go for 11 waste to energy plants using advanced technology to find a permanent solution to the problem of solid waste generated in the 110 urban civic bodies in the State, according to Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana.

“The tenders, which will close on Monday, will be finalised for the projects which are estimated to cost between Rs. 300 to Rs. 500 crore as part of Swachh Andhra mission,” he said.

The Chief Ministers’ sub-group on Swachh Bharat Mission had shortlisted models in the power sector to collect all municipal waste, segregate them and produce power based on the working of such plants in, among other countries Singapore, Japan and China, he added.

The Minister said “We are working out the cost-benefit ratio of treating the liquid waste also and make best use of available water”.
