Azure power to install rooftop solar projects on govt buildings

Independent solar power producer Azure Power has announced that it has bagged a contract to install 2 Megawatt capacity rooftop solar projects for Udaipur Smart City Limited (USCL).

As per the contract, the company's subsidiary Azure Roof Power will design, supply, install, commission and operate the grid-connected rooftop solar Photo-Voltaic (PV) projects for 25 years at multiple government buildings in Udaipur. The project is estimated to save 25 per cent of USCL's existing electricity cost.

Inderpreet Wadhwa, Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Azure Power said "Rooftop solar forms an essential part of the smart cities development and serves as remedies to the growing infrastructural problems of India to build a smarter and more sustainable future. In 2013, we built the first MW-scale rooftop project in Gandhinagar under the smart city initiative and recently we have worked on several smart city projects in Bhubaneshwar and Cuttack".

Azure Roof Power offers rooftop solar power solutions for commercial and industrial customers in cities across India to lower their energy bill and meet their greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets. The company has over 150 Mw of operating and committed solar assets in 20 states with government backed entities accounting for a bulk of the customer base

Azure's customers include commercial real estate companies, a chain of premium hotels, distribution companies in smart cities, warehouses, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Indian Railways, a water utility company in Delhi and government ministries.

Azure Power has a total portfolio of over 1,600 Mw capacity projects in India.
