Himachal Pradesh mulls rehabilitating stray cattle to produce biogas

The Himachal Pradesh government mulling rehabilitating stray cattle to produce biogas to provide a clean source of energy to the people.

The panchayati raj and rural development department has asked a company to start the pilot project at Thanakalan in Una district, and if the project is successful then it would be implemented in other parts of state.

The state has around 32,000 stray cows and the government has planned to ensure their rehabilitation by constructing cowsheds.

Panchayati raj and rural development minister Virender Kanwar said that if the project at Kamdhenu gaushala of Thanakalan succeeds then these stray cattle will get proper shelter and good care. "The success of this project has the potential to generate employment," he said.
