To save energy, all the railway stations in the Vijayawada division will be equipped with LED bulbs, and measures are being taken to tap more solar power in future, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) R. Dhananjayulu has said.

“We have 158 stations in the division, and efforts are being made to supply LED bulbs to all the stations by March-end,” the DRM said.

Mr. Dhananjayulu, along with Senior Divisional Security Commissioner S.R. Gandhi, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Shifali Kumar, and Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer N. Vara Prasad, took out an awareness rally at the station here on Tuesday, and stressed the need to save power.

Later, he inaugurated the exhibition arranged by various solar power companies and energy efficiency plants from different parts of the State at the station.

Representatives of the firms presented a demo on the functioning of energy- saving bulbs, fans, and other equipment.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dhananjayulu said that the SCR entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) for replacing all the 600 fans in the Vijayawada Railway Station with power-efficiency fans.

“At present, we could tap 25 kW solar energy in the division, and plans are afoot to tap 1000 kW solar power in one year,” he said.

Senior Divisional Operations Manager P. Chaitanya was among others who took part in the rally.
