Telangana is set to replace the existing public lighting with LED streetlights. The aim is to ensure that at least 15 to 20 per cent of the streetlights are solar powered.

The target this year is to take up LED-based streetlights in 8000 villages which will operate through the Centralised Control and Monitoring System. This was disclosed by energy minister G Jagadish Reddy at the All India Power Ministers conference held in New Delhi on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the state had a capacity of 6,889 mw power at the time of the formation which has now reached 13,773 MW.

He said in accordance with the vision of CM K Chandrasekhar Rao to provide uninterrupted power to all consumers over the coming years, a massive capacity expansion plan of 12840 MW for the next three years has been planned.
