Biogas plants are being installed at various locations in the Government Medical College Hospital to resolve the garbage issue on the campus.

The first of the biogas plants near Priyadarshini Hostel was inaugurated by Medical College Principal Thomas Mathew on Monday.

Biogas plants will be installed near the students’ hostels, SAT Hospital, the superspecialty block, and the new OP block.

The plan is to deposit all food waste generated on the campus in these plants so that the biogas can be used to run canteens in these places.

The plants will be constructed and maintained for the next three years by the Integrated Rural Technology Centre, which is an institution with State and Union government accreditation.
