In an effort to increase the waste-to-energy capacity in the capital, development minister Gopal Rai convened a meeting on Friday in which it was decided that North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) would submit a proposal on setting up a waste-to-energy plant at the Narela mandi.

"North corporation has been asked to submit a proposal to the government by September 18. In the past 2.5 years, the Delhi government has not been given any positive indication over land for schools, clinics etc, but because of the urgent need for waste disposal plants, we have decided to offer land to the corporation. Our only condition is that the waste generated at the mandi is also treated by it," said an official.
