US willing to be technological partner in Telangana green hub project

The United States is keen to work with the Telangana government in the renewable energy sector and is willing to be a technological partner in the green hub project.

A high-level economic and business delegation from the US led by Charles Rivkin, assistant secretary for economic and business affairs in the United States department of state, called on principal secretary (industries, commerce and energy) Arvind Kumar at the Secretariat here on Thursday.

Briefing the visiting delegation about the energy sector in the state, Arvind Kumar said the state fixed a target to generate 2,500 MW of solar power by the end of the current year.

“The solar policy of the state government has been widely welcomed by industrialists. Of the total 8,000 MW of solar power production plans finalised by the central government, 2,500 MW will be produced in Telangana,” he said and added that in line with its support to technology entrepreneurs, the state was preparing to set up an incubation centre for renewable energy start-ups next year. “The government will enter into an agreement with Texas University for the requisite technical know-how,” Kumar said.

He dwelt upon various issues relating to renewable energy sector and the new set of challenges in the present scenario. He sought the expertise of the US in the transportation and storage of solar power and in making the solar roof-top model cost-effective.

The members of the delegation said there were lots of opportunities to invest in India and appreciated the solar power policy of the state government. Brian Peck, director in charge of international affairs and business development for California, said they were willing to work with the state government on the innovation hub.

Ziad Haider, special representative for commercial and business affairs; Urmila Venugopalan, senior advisor; Partha Mazumdar, senior economic officer; Jen Bauer, staff assistant and members of the US-India business delegation took part.
